Bronte, Oakville

On the shores of Lake Ontario, Bronte Village in Oakville is a great place to visit, with many opportunities for photographers.

Bronte Beach, Shell Park, and Bronte Provincial Park just up Burloak Drive provide a wide variety of trees, flowers, birds, and other wildlife.

I have tried to capture some of the beauty all around me, with hundreds of pictures to choose from, I have to start somewhere!

A ‘rescue’ Monarch

Occasionally, I find monarchs in distress on the beach in late autumn when they migrate. This particular monarch, Marcy, was not having a good time, with sand clogging her wings.

She was weighed down and couldn’t fly, so I brought her home, with her riding on my left hand all the way home in the car, cleaned her up carefully, and let her bask in the sun in our sunroom.

After a few hours, she was flexing her wings, so I took her outside in the backyard and she graced our day with her trust and beautiful wings.

Could you ever wear jewellery to rival her natural beauty?

Eventually, she was strong enough to continue on her journey.

A magical experience.

  1. You are our family’s version of the ‘butterfly whisperer’ my dear brother. What an experience this must have been. With love!

    1. Thanks, Mike.
To say I have felt privileged in rescuing monarchs and another type, a painted lady (see first pic on butterfly page)
is a complete understatement. I’ve seen red-tail hawks, and up to a dozen golden eagles (they will get their own page soon), and nothing else in nature awed me as much as interacting with monarchs. To think that they fly to Mexico from Canada is very humbling.
